Studying

Success in pharmaceutical sciences

Since 2020, the University of Bern has been offering a new interdisciplinary university degree program in pharmaceutical sciences that is the only one of its kind in Switzerland. In the summer of 2022, the first class graduated from the pharmaceutics program.

The Pharmaceutics university degree program was established at the University of Bern in 2020 in response to a nationwide need to counteract the shortage of pharmacists in Switzerland.

In Switzerland, pharmaceutical sciencecs can be studied not only in Bern but also in Basel, Geneva and Zurich. However, the program at the University of Bern is the only one of its kind in Switzerland, combining science and medicine by providing a solid foundation in natural science, biomedicine, and pharmaceutical subjects in the bachelor's program at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (Pharmaceutical Sciences), followed by a strongly patient- and practice-oriented clinical education in the master's program at the Faculty of Medicine (Pharmaceutics), which prepares students for the federal examination to become a pharmacist.

Now, the first class of students at the University of Bern has successfully completed the new master's program in pharmaceutical sciences in the summer of 2022. The completion of the Master's program was followed by the Federal Examination in Pharmaceutics, which was held for the first time in Bern, after which 22 young pharmacists received their Federal Diploma.
