Pathology

Better performance thanks to digitization

At the Institute of Pathology at the University of Bern, an innovation has been developed which is the first of its kind in the world. It is the Pathojet, a kind of medical cockpit.

Alessandro Lugli and Miryam Blassnigg from the Institute of Pathology at the University of Bern have developed the Pathojet, a modern tool that represents a major innovation in their field.

The instrument consists of a digital microscope, an ergonomic chair, and a control system, all set on a structure of carbon steel. This provides pathologists with a medical cockpit that allows them to work more ergonomically, with greater concentration, and with many more technical options than before. For example, tissue samples can be analyzed digitally side by side, a report written on them, and in particularly difficult cases, specialized colleagues from abroad can be called in by video call to look at a sample together for additional assessment.

The new digital workplace will make it possible to provide more and even more reliable information in the future, which will shorten waiting times for patients and further increase patient safety.
